Providing Healthcare to Battered Louisiana - Continuing to fulfill its mission to bring emergency medical relief to those in need, AmeriCares is helping survivors of hurricanes Katrina and Rita to have access to healthcare in the aftermath of these devastating storms.

Hurricane Relief Work Continues In Gulf Coast - AmeriCares is continuing to send relief supplies into the Gulf Coast area to aid those affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, as emergency response teams on the ground assess the latest needs. Since Hurricane Katrina struck late last month, AmeriCares has mounted a comprehensive relief effort across the Gulf Coast, delivering $4 million in relief supplies including much needed antibiotics and other medicines, medical supplies, bottled water, nutritional supplements, cleaning supplies and personal care items.

The AmeriCares Free Clinic, a mobile health unit, is stationed in New Orleans where it is providing free medical care to those in need. AmeriCares relief personnel are also on the ground elsewhere in Louisiana, collaborating with local agencies to ensure access to medicines and other critically needed relief supplies.

AmeriCares also continues to coordinate with the Department of Health & Human Services and the Center for Disease Control to monitor needs for medicines and supplies, and is working with major pharmaceutical companies to provide free prescription medicines directly through the supply chain to ensure that people in need of their regular medications have access to them.

AmeriCares receives large, corporate donations of medicine, medical and relief supplies from companies. When you enroll in one of our workshops, your helping to enable Americares to ship supplies quickly and efficiently as well as handle logistical work. In this way, year-in and year-out, AmeriCares is able to deliver over $3,000 of relief for every $100 donated.
