Essential Supplies
A portable easel (we like Soltek, Mabef, Trident El Greco and Open M), an assortment of palette knives, an assortment of canvas panels or precut canvases and a painting board, a wet canvas carrier, paper towels, trash bags to clip onto your easel, a couple of bulldog clips, masking tape for taping precut canvases to a painting board, vine charcoal or a blue pencil for drawing on your canvas, a sketchbook and notepad, pens and pencils for taking notes and onsite sketching.

Easel Portable easel. I.e. French easel, Soltek, Mabef, Open M, Gorilla box, etc…
Palette: 16” x 20” or larger. Glass backed with grey paper over a masonite board and taped along edges. Plexiglass can be used instead but glass is easier to clean.
French Mistress wood briefcase to carry glass palette - optional
Brushes: 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12 filberts - I use Utrecht #209 brushes.
2, 4 & 6 flats - optional.
Boards: Canvas and/or masonite gessoed boards. I.e. 9x12, 11x14, 12x16, 16x20, etc…

Gay Faulkenberry's Supply List

Recommended Paints: Cadmium Yellow Lemon, Alizarin Crimson (Permanent), Cadmium Yellow Medium, Thalo or Windsor Green, Transparent, Orange (Gamblin), Cobalt Blue, Cadmium Red Light, Ultramarine Blue, Permanent Rose, Mauve Blue Shade and Titanium White (Large Tube)

Essential Supplies:A French Box Easel, if you have one, or a standing easel. Your palette may be wood, glass or paper disposable. A painting umbrella is optional for outdoor painting.

Canvases or canvas boards, 8 to 10, nothing larger than 12 x 16, also, several 6 x 8 panels for quick studies. Masonite panels that have been gessoed or glued with canvas work well. I prefer to work on a canvas ground, but bring what you’re comfortable painting on.

Brushes --- Filbert bristles --- sizes --- 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 & 12 are recommended. Bring along your brushes that you’re comfortable with as well.

Sketch pad & pencils or markers for preliminary thumbnail sketches
Palette knife and scraper for cleaning your palette

Gessoed Masonite Hardboard- 16x20 and 12x16. Pre-gessoed art boards will be available for sale at our school during the workshop. If you want to make your own boards, Home Depot will cut a 4'x8' sheet of 1/4 inch hardboard up for you. Show them the diagram below as a guide. You will then need to gesso the boards using Liquitex Gesso. Brush lightly back and forth across the as the gesso dries to eliminate ridges.
